Compost Program

Pilot Program as of March 1st 2024
composting in village

The Village of Fayetteville is starting a pilot program to promote and educate the benefits associated with residential composting.   Composting is the practice of separating organic waste (food and  more) from regular landfill bound household garbage so that it  can be processed into a nutrient rich material (compost) which can improve soil quality.  After preparing or enjoying a meal, leftover  food scraps from cooking and your plate can be placed into your  composting bin. By separating your food scraps at home, you are helping to send less waste to the landfill, thereby reducing tipping fees and more importantly, a cleaner and healthier environment.

The Village of Fayetteville’s Kitchen Compost curbside pickup pilot began March 1st 2024.  The 13-gal totes were ordered and distributed by the village to those who signed up for the pilot program.

Schedule is:  • Pick up 1st and 3rd Friday of month

You can use BPI certified compostable tote liners. Plastic and paper bags are not to be used.

Items that will be acceptable for program:  Vegetable, fruit scraps, coffee grounds, tea

Items that will NOT be acceptable for program: Meat, fish, bones, dairy, eggs, bread, animal waste, grass clippings

• We are taking it slow to improve our systems and grow program

• We will adjust systems and program to serve our residents and provide a valued program for our residents

We still have room for a few additional participants!  Call or email me as soon as possible to participate.
