The Fayetteville Fire Department was established in 1845. It consisted of two companies,  the Mechanic’s Hook and Ladder Company on High bridge Street and the Hose Company on Center Street. In 1888 the Center Street station was destroyed by fire. As a result, the two companies merged and have remained a single entity ever since. In 1924 the department purchased its first motorized apparatus, an International pumper. The Fayetteville Fire Department began providing EMS transport in 1942 with the purchase of a LaSalle ambulance. The winter of 1987 saw the arrival of the department’s first aerial ladder built by LTI.

As a proud combination department, our volunteer and career fire & EMS providers work seamlessly together to provide the highest caliber of fire and EMS services available. On any given day or night shift, we regularly staff an engine, 105' ladder truck and 3 ambulances. We have the added capability of a light squad outfitted for low-angle rope rescue, brush truck and gator as necessary. The department performs fire and life safety inspections of all commercial and multi-residential properties in the village, as well as providing fire prevention and CPR programs to our community. In 2004 the department established a Public Access Defibrillation program for all village-owned buildings, and in 2005 the department began a child safety seat inspection program through the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.
