Safe Routes to School Grant sidewalk project

Work is in progress to install a pedestrian bridge along Salt Springs Street over the brook!

As of today, Phase II of the Safe Routes to School Sidewalk Project will begin with the installation of the pedestrian bridge!  This will occur along Salt Springs Road over Bishops Brook near the interesection of the Carriage Hill development.  This bridge should complete our pedestrian-friendly village by connecting just about every village neighborhood with sidewalks.

The Village of Fayetteville received a grant for $625,000 as a recipient of the Safe Routes to School Grant through the Transportation Alternatives program. “The goal of New York's Safe Routes to School Program is to assist New York communities in developing and implementing projects and programs that encourage walking and bicycling to school while enhancing the safety of these trips.”

Work was completed on replacement concrete sidewalks on South Manlius Street between Lincoln Avenue and Clinton Street. These upgrades brought  Village sidewalks into compliance with current ADA standards.  Work also took place along the west side of Salt Springs Street between Redfield Avenue and Pine Ridge Road.
The project finally reached completion at the end of November 2019, with the exception of a pedestrian bridge on Salt Springs St going over Bishop Brook. (The bridge installation should be completed in 2020.)
