2019 Village Board of Trustees
2019 Board

Mark A. Olson - Mayor
I was born and raised in Fayetteville with my seven brothers and sisters.  My wife Mary and I have two sons, Nate and Noah, and we are very proud to be raising our family in Fayetteville where I have so many fond memories. I graduated from the Fayetteville-Manlius School district and attended College at SUNY Morrisville in the food service administration degree program. I’m currently Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Gerharz Equipment in East Syracuse.

I have been a member of the Fayetteville Fire Department since 1981, and have been a Captain and an Assistant Treasurer of the Fireman’s Association. I was elected as a Trustee in 1996 and re-elected in 2000 and have served as liaison to the planning, zoning and historic boards as well as celebrations and buildings and grounds, and in my second term as trustee I served as liaison to the Fayetteville Senior Center and Fayetteville Free Library. I was elected to the Mayor’s office in April of 2004.

From a very young age I was taught to give back more than you receive and, in the case of Fayetteville, I can think of no better way to give back than to be able to do what I get to do each and everyday. I have a dream that my two sons will want to live and raise their families in Fayetteville and everyday I work towards making Fayetteville the best place in the world to live.

My wife, Kristen and I have called Fayetteville our home since 2000; moving here from Manlius. Like many others, we fell in love with our community. Nowhere else will you find a place with such a high quality of life; a place with a sense of community that makes you feel at home. It is an honor to be able to serve as a village Trustee.

Kristen and I have been married for 15 years. We have twin children, Alexander and Madelyn, both of which will be learning, first hand, the value of giving back to their community.

I grew up near Camden, NY. After high school, I earned a BA in Public Administration from the State University of New York College at Oswego. I’m the Past President of the Chittenango Lions Club and have served on the Village of Fayetteville Zoning Board of Appeals. Currently, I am an active youth sports coach and a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. I’m the Senior Territory Manager for General Mills in Upstate New York.

It’s a great privilege to serve in a community with so much heart. I have always strived to contribute in a capacity in which I can help with productive growth, whether it be in my children’s schools, church, or my neighborhood. I have been a volunteer parent at the YMCA representing parents of special needs children, and at Gigi’s Playhouse for children with Down Syndrome. I also enjoy volunteering in my neighborhood where I serve as treasurer for the Brookside Neighborhood Association.

I have enjoyed being the Trustee liaison of the Planning Board,  Zoning Board, Codes Enforcement, Celebrations, and the Matilda Gage Foundation.

I love sewing and baking, but being at home with my family is my most favorite activity. I also enjoy getting out of the house and going running.
